Lighting Table
Table lamp with rosette theme by C. G. Hallberg
Modern Classicism style table lamp by Carl Gustav Hallberg, essentially an Art Deco re-interpretation of a Neoclassical candle stand, with a round column stand tapering up to a demi-sphere fob cab, mounted below to a cylindrical pedestal ornamented with rosette collar and repousse motifs attached to a disk base in silver mounted on ebonized wood, Sweden, 1933. Stamped CGH mark, silver hallmarks.
This rare model represents an interesting example of stylistic transition Functionalist design after 1930. From its creation a luxury object crafted by Stockholm’s most exclusive silver workshop, the lamp retains the elegant Swedish Art Deco style of the 1920s. The sweeping advance of Modernism, however, is evident. The Neoclassical historical type that inspired the model has been radically distilled to its simplest geometric volumes. The additive quality of the rosette ornaments emphasizes the importance of the basic forms.
