Exquisite hammered brass chandelier by Lars Holmström

Exquisite and unique Art Deco plafoniere/chandelier by Lars Holmström , having a circular frame decorated in repoussé braids and floral motifs around a sand-blasted glass diffuser, with an openwork screen of radiating scrolls below, all charmingly suspended by a hanging rod transformed into a tulip using sprouting leaves and a canopy modeled after a bloom; all masterfully crafted in hand-hammered brass; Sweden, 1920s/ #LHO101

Influential and prolific artistic blacksmith Lars Holmström (1894-1959) was a founder of the Arvika Crafts artisan consortium in 1922, and his work was exhibited at Paris Exposition of 1925. With its considerable charm, elegance, and delicacy, this chandelier is a magnificent example of what critic Morton Shand would dub the “Swedish Grace” aesthetic in his review of the country’s section at the fair.
